How to Actually Measure Whether Your Automation Is Working

It's easy to set up an automation, feel like things are smoother, and never actually check whether it's paying for itself. A few weeks of tracking the right numbers tells you for certain, and tells you where to automate next.
Start With Time, Not Money
Before automating a task, time how long it actually takes a person to do it, including the small interruptions around it, checking a phone between customers, remembering to follow up later. That honest number, multiplied by how often it happens in a week, is your real baseline.
Track the Outcome, Not Just the Action
An automated WhatsApp reply is only a win if it changes what happens next, faster responses, more bookings, fewer no-shows. Track the outcome metric alongside the automation itself, not just whether the message went out on time.
Give It a Real Before-and-After Window
Compare four weeks before an automation went live against four weeks after, using the same metric both times: response time, conversion rate, no-show rate. A single good week doesn't tell you much on its own, a full month-over-month comparison does.
